Quire is an open reference that anyone can read and edit.
It opens with every article of the Wikipedia network: more than ten million articles in forty languages, read live from Wikipedia and set in Quire's own reading layout. The moment someone edits an article here, Quire keeps its own copy of that article, with a full revision history, comparisons between any two revisions, one-click restore and a talk page.
Why the name#
A quire is a gathering of folded sheets, the unit a book is sewn from. An encyclopedia is many hands gathering pages into one volume; the name says that plainly.
How articles work#
- Mirrored
- An article nobody has edited on Quire is read live from Wikipedia, at a known revision, and shown with a link to that exact revision.
- Quire copy
- Saving an edit to a mirrored article creates a Quire copy. Its first revision is the Wikipedia text it started from, credited and linked; every later revision is an edit made here.
- Quire original
- Pages created on Quire, such as user pages and talk pages, live only here.
Editing#
Anyone can edit, with or without an account. Edits made without an account are marked as anonymous and identified by a short code instead of an address. See Help:Editing for the markup.
Licence#
See Quire:Licensing.
